William Cherry - writer
After graduating from UBC engineering,
he settled in beautiful Haida Gwaii for 12 years. His wilderness hikes there and the mainland coast took him through the greatest softwood rain forests on earth.
A modern day explorer, his skills at navigating the deep woodlands of the pacific coast led him into becoming a lead consultant to the forest industry. William currently lives near Vancouver, never far from a gravel road to take him to his second home, the B.C bush.
Over time he encountered most of the animals featured in his book of wildlife poetry, 'Hinterland Vignettes’. On the stormy days when south-easters confined his crew to camp, he developed the challenging logic puzzle game and the title of his first book 'DEKRYPTUAN' which has been described by some as a deeper version of the popular Wordle type puzzle.
Hinterland Vignettes features colorful, realistic illustrations by Haida artist Gryn White, naturalist Anna Stunkel and west coast landscape artist Dee Gale. Entertaining, educational, moving, clever, and compelling, it is a book hard to put away for any age. It will spark the imagination of the very young and engage all of us to think of ways we can enrich this amazing wild world that sustains us.
